International Embedding
The programme was linked and tuned to several (inter)national programmes. It was an aim to strengthen international alliances and networks regarding science, monitoring and policy.
Science
The key questions and themes addressed by this programme reflected the priorities in the Netherlands within the IPCC conclusions, the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP), the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP) and the International Human Dimensions Programme (IHDP). CcSP research was complementary with the sixth and future seventh framework research programme of the European Union.

Monitoring networks
| The process studies and development of prototype monitoring systems go along with ongoing worldwide monitoring initiatives such as global observing systems (GCOS, GOOS, GTOS) and operational networks of the WMO and UNEP. Another important monitoring programme is CESAR (Cabauw Experimental Site for Atmospheric Research). | ![]() |

International policy networks
| The programme is closely related to international policy networks, such as the UNFCCC and IPCC. For example, the programme cooperates with the Dutch VROM Ministry on writing the National Communications. CcSP-research contributes to the improvement of the national greenhouse gas inventories and carbon budget on an annual basis to the UNFCCC (following Kyoto protocol and the Marrakesh Accords). The period after 2012 gets attention by contributing to the preparation and vision building for the Post-Kyoto era. Currently, the IPCC is developing the Fourth Assessment Report (AR4), which will be ready in 2007. Many researchers in this programme are contributing to this AR4 and it is likely that some initial results of the programme will be assessed in the AR4. | |
CIRCLE Project
| Climate impact analysis and adaptation response must be informed by a coherent body of research and it is CIRCLE´s prime objective to contribute to such efforts by networking and aligning national research programmes in the 17 CIRCLE partner countries. The Implementation of a European Research Area (ERA) for climate change is CIRCLE’s final goal. | ![]() |
