Final report on Adaptive strategies for the Rotterdam unembanked area (HSRR3.1) A significant part of the Rotterdam urban area is not protected by the primary levee system. Due to climate change and urbanization of the former port areas the vulnerability of this area to flooding is increasing. The aim of this research is to develop more knowledge on and evaluate adaptive strategies and measures for existing and newly developed residential areas located outside the primary water defences in the Rijnmond – Drechtsteden region.

Climate Proof Cities consortium meeting April 2013 The CPC consortium meeting on April 25 in Rotterdam was very lively. In the morning, stakeholders reflected on the CPC programme and presented their expectations with regard to its outcome. It was good to hear that various CPC results have already been picked up as valuable information for decision-making.

Model calculations show the contribution of ice flow from the ice sheet to sea level rise Along with surface melting, iceberg calving into the ocean also contribute considerably to sea-level rise. The new model by Iranian researcher Faezeh Nick (Utrecht University) now provides much better insight into the future behaviour of large outlet glaciers in Greenland. KfC co-financed this research.
