Archive Project News | Summer School: Greenhouse gas emissions from rural activities - Monitoring, reporting and verification To mitigate climate change, demanding greenhouse gas emission reduction targets are being negotiated. Meeting these targets requires putting to work a broad and integrated range of reduction options, including those related to land use. The course aim is: full carbon accounting is a demanding task, in which scientific complexity and manageable, transparent accounting systems have difficulty to meet. This research had been carried out within the CcSP A09 project "Financial arrangements for disaster losses under climate change". CcSP / VU University Amsterdam, Thursday 14 January 2010 | | CcSP IC11 project Socio-Economic Scenarios for Climate Assessments has been finished The CcSP IC11 project "Socio-Economic Scenarios for Climate Assessments" has been finished in 2009. A wiki-site was set-up, where existing scenario data from many sources have been compiled and presented in a way that they are ready to use. Users are encouraged to share comments with the IC11 team or to contribute to this wiki.

This richly illustrated book illuminates the way adaptation to climate change is tackled. It provides an overview of international climate measures covering a broad range of themes including, water management, ecology, coastal defence, the urban environment, and energy. Springer, Friday 4 December 2009 | | Symposium: Facilitation and evaluation of participation: the role of social science methods In this symposium, we would like to explore the role of social science methods in designing, facilitating and evaluating participatory processes. Freshwater bivalves as archives of environmental variability in the Rhine-Meuse delta Promotion Emma Versteegh: Silent witnesses. Freshwater bivalves as archives of environmental variability in the Rhine-Meuse delta, a research carried out within the Climate changes Spatial Programme CS09. Thursday 26 November 2009 | | CcSP IC05 Scientific Paper The effect of risk context on the Value of a Statistical Life published This paper examines to what extent variations in the value of statistical life (VOSL) can be explained by the context in which these values are elicited. In a meta-analysis of 27 international stated preference studies a Bayesian model is estimated regressing contingent values for mortality risk reductions originating from three different risk contexts on risk, respondent and study characteristics.
